Instructions

Heat the oven to 150C and butter an ovenproof dish.

Put the rice, milk, sugar and vanilla into the dish and stir.

Dot the butter over the top and grate over a little nutmeg.

Bake for 1.5-2 hours, stirring after the first 30 minutes, until the rice is tender and a golden skin has formed on top.

Serve warm on its own or with a spoonful of jam.
